Agostino Veroni: Modern Impressionist Artist from Livorno & Tuscany

Agostino Veroni painting en plein air a sunflower field in Tuscany, working outdoors on an original oil painting on canvas inspired by natural light and countryside landscape

“To paint is to tell what I feel, what strikes me. Nature is the protagonist of my paintings, I love to paint ‘live’ so I can grasp the essence.”

Ciao!

I am Agostino Veroni, a professional contemporary Italian painter born and raised in the historic coastal city of Livorno. Today, I divide my creative life between my two beloved studios: one in my native coast of Livorno and the other in Lamporecchio, nestled in the iconic hills near Vinci—the legendary birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci.

My artistic journey began in the rich tradition of the Livornese School (Scuola Livornese), deeply rooted in classical oil painting and the legacy of the Macchiaioli movement. Over the years, I evolved this traditional foundation to develop my own unique, personal style of modern impressionism. Through heavy impasto and energetic palette knife techniques, I translate the vibrant light, rich texture, and atmosphere of Italy onto canvas.

This dual creative life allows me to continuously draw inspiration from two distinct worlds: the wild, salty light of the Mediterranean sea and the peaceful, cypress-lined hills of the Tuscan countryside. My art studio, which is open to the public by appointment, is located inside a wing of the historic Villa Minghetti in Tuscany, serving as my main creative sanctuary and personal source of inspiration.

Artistic Roots & Master Mentors

My formal path in Livorno was shaped by fundamental encounters with legendary Livornese and Italian masters who guided my transition from classical training to my modern style:

  • Ferruccio Mataresi: With whom I spent years studying classical design and anatomy, establishing a rigorous structural foundation.

  • Giulio da Vicchio: Who encouraged me to liberate my color palette and follow my instincts as a pure colorist.

  • Masaniello Luschi: Under whose guidance I embraced en plein air painting, learning to capture the real-life light of the Tuscan coasts and the bustling daily life of historic spots like Livorno’s Piazza Cavallotti.

Proud Member of Gruppo Labronico

As a native of Livorno, I am deeply honored to maintain a long-standing, active membership with the prestigious Gruppo Labronico. Founded in Livorno in 1920 to inherit and promote the legacy of Tuscan impressionism, my affiliation with this historic art association is a vital pillar of my artistic identity.
